sewing sewing sewing

last night i sewed my first ever little girl's dress. it was the second thing ive sewn. EVER. lets just say...the seam ripper became my best friend! after much trial & error...and improvision...i finished off the dress! i got my pattern from that awesome book "One Yard Wonders." it is basically a glorified pillow case dress, but it turned out pretty cute! but man, this project convinced me, ive still got A LOTTT of learning to do. see how it turned out below...

sushi & fruit juice picnic

today was a gorgeous, lazy day for a picnic...i grabbed the sisters along with their summer reading, ipods, & sketchbooks, and we headed off to park.

we laughed because when grace took this photo we got giggly, and the picture turned out looking like madelyn and i were taking engagement photos or something ; )

this has totally been my summer song...just the cutest words.

fabrics!!

just ordered a bunch of new fabric off of the greatest website... http://www.fabric.com/ ! i simply can not wait for my little package to come in the mail. lots of amy butler & valori wells. i actually only got a yard of each because of this insanely great little book called "one yard wonders" by rebecca yaker & patricia hoskins.

these are great little bird's nest rings i found on etsy...would make fun gifts for friends! i'd love to try & make one myself, although i'm sure it would not turn out near as darling.

...revamping...

so...about six months ago my best friend (mamie craig) & i started an etsy shop called "frolic & frills." it was fillled with fun, whimsical headbands for little girls. for two months, headbands kind of became our life. once school finals kicked in, we got a pinch overwhelmed and put etsy on hold for a while. now...we're taking a step back & looking at what direction we want our little company to go in, and we're finding it's a totally new direction.

we plan to spend the last months of summer planning planning planning & then launch a totally new idea by fall- we hope. we've got lots of secret projects we need to get a move on & then focus in on advertising & getting our name out there & finding people that support what we're about. it's a little nerve-wracking to dive into, but i also couldn't be more thrilled...five years ago, if someone would have told me i would be doing this in 2010, i would've completely flipped. i've wanted to do things like this for so long, it's such a thrill that it's starting to work out for me now. it's a dream...and my dream needs a good dose of really hard work out of me- which i am very ready to give in this season of my life. i'm crossing my fingers & starting a whole new season of revamping, reorganizing, recreating, and refocusing & hoping that it all pays off....

below are pictures of a bunch of headbands we've made. soon i'll make a post of some of the headbands we've sold that i loved. anyways, enjoy!

* little miss darling (baby sized- we have a small line of baby headbands, but this is the only baby picture posted)
* puppy love
* xoxo
* mermaid's tail (i am in LOVE with this chunky metallic turquoise rick rack...this is one of the headbands i'm always tempted to steal from our stash & wear out myself.)
* valentine's day parade
* chocolate kisses
* queen of hearts
* you are my sunshine
* fairy in the woods
* eloise
* polka dot paris
*elephant love medley
* tea party pink
* minnie mouse
* penelope's bloom* toile cheer (you can't see in the picture, but the rest of the headband is wrapped in this gorgeous pink toile ribbon.)
